2016 Wood Award Winners
Last night we were thrilled to win a Wood Award for our Planks Collection designed by Max Lamb. The Wood Awards “aim to recognise, encourage and promote outstanding design, craftsmanship and installation using wood” and are awarded for buildings, small projects and furniture. Planks was joint winner of the ‘Production Made’ category with judges particularly liking “the way that the collection expresses the integrity of the material, using it in a most effective way and bringing rationality to its design”.
This is the fourth Wood Award that Benchmark has won. Our very first was for the highly complex, double curved, wooden acoustic paneling in the concert halls of The Sage in Gateshead. Our second was for the outdoor pavilion at Alnwick Gardens and our third was for the L’Arche Cabinet designed by Terence Conran as part of the Litton Collection.
We were also really pleased that the Foster + Partners Maggie’s Centre at the Robert Parfett Building in Manchester was awarded the Arnold Laver Gold Award (Winner of Winners) and Structural Award. Benchmark made many pieces of furniture for this project and so we have experienced first hand what a fantastic building it is.
