Take time for tea and to talk at Clerkenwell Design Week
For Clerkenwell Design Week, we’ve joined up with neighbours to our Dorset workshop, tea merchants Comins Tea. Michelle & Rob Comins are lovely people who travel the world to source fine single estate tea. They believe in tea as a connector, a way to slow people and conversation down and encourage consideration and exchange of ideas.
Passionate about tea and its provenance, Michelle and Rob’s story started when on a trip to Northern India where they ventured up to Darjeeling to see the plantations. Here they had a chance meeting with Mr Rajah Banerjee, of the Makaibari Tea Estate, who took them on an unforgettable walk though his estate and offered them personal tasting. Inspired by their trip to India and unable to find the quality of single estate tea they had shared with Mr Banerjee in the UK, they made the decision to set up on their own and to directly source fine loose leaf teas from estates around the world. They believe that the preparation and enjoyment of loose leaf tea can be an every day activity which can fit in with and indeed enhance busy lives.
You can read more about the Comins inspirational story here but in a nutshell, Rob and Michelle’s vision is to create a more modern British tea experience that brings people back to the excitement and ritual of taking tea. In their words they want to “keep it simple and not make it stuffy”. They’ve certainly excited us and we look forward to sharing a cup of tea with visitors and talking about our new designs next week.
