Sharing knowledge and skills
Over 40 interior designers joined us last week for our second Toolbox Talk… a series of talks and discussions to give better knowledge and understanding of materials and skills to enable more creative and effective commissioning.
For this Toolbox Talk, we invited Christopher Farr and Barneby Gates, rug specialists and wallpaper designers respectively, to share the tools of their trade. We learnt about development of designs, material selection, process choices and different techniques that would guide the decision process when buying or commissioning rugs and wallpaper. Our own Sean Sutcliffe followed with a talk and demonstration on different timbers and finishes sharing his in depth knowledge of wood, including a hands-on demonstration on how to scrub a raw timber table, and advising on sustainably sourced materials.
As intended it was a thoroughly relaxed and informal day – an opportunity for us to share our values and our love of making; a day of conversations rather than presentations where we could all learn from each other.
After lunch (cooked by our very talented chef Jo) there was an opportunity to tour the workshops and chat about specific projects. The day ended (as all days should!) with a cup of tea and a slice of cake.
Here’s some feedback from the day…
“..thank you all so much for such an inspiring workshop last Wednesday. We both found the talks very interesting and informative…”
“a huge thank you for a great day last Wednesday, the talks were so inspiring and all in a beautiful venue…”
