Proud of our award winning apprentices

The City of Oxford College hosted the annual Rycotewood Furniture Awards earlier this week.  More than 100 pieces, hand crafted by students, were exhibited at the show, and a number of awards were presented to students who had excelled in furniture making.

We’re extremely proud that our own Josh Hale was awarded Apprentice of the Year and Philip Marchant was awarded Best Portfolio.  Josh and Phil have been learning their skills for last three years under the mentorship of our senior craftsmen with one day a week at Rycotewood college,  the highly regarded centre for furniture making.   We’re delighted that their high standard of craftsmanship and design have been publicly recognised.

We’ve been employing apprentices for nearly 30 years with over half of our staff being former apprentices.     Our commitment to apprenticeships has been recognised by a previous Employer of the Year Award and we are also involved in a new government programme, Apprentice Makers, as ambassadors for apprenticeships.

We’ve shared a picture of Josh’s outstanding work. which is currently on display at City of Oxford College this week .  There will be further opportunity to see the full exhibition of students work in the Gallery at the  Old Fire Station in George Street, Oxford from Friday 3 July to Saturday 8 August.
