New designer for our furniture collection
September sees the launch of new pieces into our furniture collection including two designs by Nathalie de Leval.
Nathalie was originally a sculptor and only discovered her passion for furniture when she studied cabinet making to improve her making skills. Following an MA in furniture design at the RCA, she is now both a furniture designer and maker, with work ranging from bespoke commissions and products, to design for furniture production.
We first worked together on The Wish List Project back in 2014 when we paired her with Sir Paul Smith for whom she designed his dream shed. We worked with Nathalie again when we made her designs for The Terrace restaurant at The Rosewood London. Nathalie shares our desire to create timeless furniture and her designs are beautifully proportioned with exquisite detailing.
Nathalie has designed the Holworth Chair and Tailor storage for us and has really considered the physical engagement that a user has with each piece, spending hours making models to refine and develop her ideas. The Holworth is a classic dining chair with a lovely bow back and refined tapered shape with a slenderness that belies its robustness. It is made in our Dorset workshop, makers of many of the best British chairs for the last fifty years. The Tailor chest of drawers and tallboy has a distinctive and unusual diagonal frame which, as well as creating an interesting dynamic, creates a shadow gap between the drawers and the frame that is reminiscent of Japanese joinery.
Both pieces will be launched at Decorex International at Syon Park on 18-21 September. Come & visit us on stand H34.
