Fixing Attitudes at the V&A during London Design Festival
We’re back in the beautiful Lydia and Manfred Gorvy Theatre at the V&A on September 23rd for London Design Festival as part of their Makers Day Talks Programme. This time we’ll be challenging the audience to consider ‘Is it too late or are we just in time to change attitudes towards making and fixing?’
Our panel, made up of people we admire, will be discussing a number of reactions and initiatives which are encouraging DIY making, repair and resilience. Joining us will be Edwin Heathcote, FT Architecture critic and co-founder of the hardware manufacturer, Izé, who will chair the panel of our own Sean Sutcliffe , co -founder of Benchmark, Daniel Charny, co-founder of Fixperts, Nat Hunter, Strategic Director of Machines Room and former co-Director of Design at RSA and Professor Peter Childs, Head of the Dyson School of Design Engineering.
Also joining us will be our Fixpert Resident, Maya Alvarodo. Fixperts is a creative social platform and education campaign that celebrates fixing and making for others. Selected by Ilse Crawford, Oli Stratford, Sean and Daniel, Maya will spend a year designing and making fixes with local people here in our workshops in Kintbury. By showcasing this pilot scheme, we hope to attract more companies to take on a resident and contribute to their local communities in a meaningful way.
The panel will also discuss the reasons behind Fixperts in a wider context and its call for new attitudes to making and fixing.
