Fairlight End – A Contemporary Horticultural Masterpiece
Set in Pett, East Sussex, Fairlight End is a 3-acre sloping garden with impressive views across the surrounding countryside. With the help of Landscape Architect Ian Kitson, Garden owner Chris Hutt has spent the last year transforming and extensively re-landscaping the garden into a contemporary masterpiece and has chosen some of our Wales & Wales outdoor furniture to compliment the garden.
Set around an ancient cherry tree the sloping lawns give way to terrace retaining walls in curved steel, a wild flower meadow with mown paths, large orchard, and two natural ponds. Alongside modern sculptures in corten steel, Chris has chosen the curved Meko bench and several Chico chairs which give a timeless quality that sits perfectly in this wonderful setting.
We had tea with Chris and his gardeners on the beautiful paved terrace where he explained his passion for the garden, and how he had been impressed by the responsive way in which Benchmark had built his furniture in just 4 weeks to coincide with the opening of the garden under the National Gardens Scheme.
We left Chris and his team sweeping paths, clipping hedges and making the last minute preparations for his visitors this weekend. The garden is open to the public under the National Gardens Scheme (Gardens open for charity) on Fri 21 and Sat 22 June between 11am and 5pm. Admission £4, children free.
