Flying the flag for sustainability
Last week was a very special week. After all, it’s not very often that one gets invited to Buckingham Palace to meet the Queen. In recognition of winning the Queen’s Award again (we first won it in 2007) Director Steven Owens and Craftsman Graham Martin were honoured to represent us at a special award winners reception.
Later in the week we hoisted our Queen’s Award Flag and welcomed the Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire, Mr James Puxley, who joined us for tea and a tour of the workshops before presenting us with our award. We then celebrated in true Benchmark style with a hog roast in the garden for all our families and friends followed by a rousing game of rounders.
We are one of just twelve companies in the whole country awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development with specific mention for our world leading work on cradle to grave Life Cycle Analysis, our employment practices and our involvement and support of the local community. Not content to stand still, we will continue to seek ways to reduce our environmental impact further and hopefully, through involvement in high profile, publicity generating projects, we will spread the message that sustainability is not only good for the environment but is also good for business.
