A new collaboration
We’re delighted to be working with Sebastian Cox who shares our passion for sustainable design and manufacture. He is highly recognised for using coppicing in his work, creating products that are simple in form, functional, unobtrusive, lightweight, and durable. Common to all of them is a strong connection with the making process through visible joints, and honest construction.
We’ve been lucky to have Seb work alongside us in the workshop, teaching our craftsmen the ancient technique of cleaving, steam bending and ways of working with coppiced wood.
His new range for Benchmark, the Chestnut & Ash collection, has been developed in our workshops and will be launched next week at Clerkenwell Design Week. The collection includes a chair, bench, cabinet and sideboard.
At Clerkenwell, we will be celebrating our 30 year anniversary and intend to make it a three day celebration of our love of making. We’ve got a vast indoor and outdoor space on the second floor where we will also be showing pieces that demonstrate our skills across furniture and metalwork, for hotels and restaurants, domestic and work-space. We will be pulling pints from our copper topped bar and serving sausages and oysters on the outside terrace.
